The journey across Everealm to
find the magical stones has not come without its challenges. After being
plagued by unwanted gests, disagreements and accidents, Princess Sarita is
beginning to wonder if her dream of gaining magic is a fantasy that can’t come
true.
Along the way, new friends and
rekindled sparks between old flames have caused quite a stir within the group.
As a new wizard joins the effort and gives the princess a reason to continue,
the quest for the next stone ensues…
As the sun rises over the ridge,
our story continues into the Song of
Sparrows!
History of my copy: I received a free
copy of Song of Sparrow along with Song of Sovereign through YA Bound Book
Tours in exchange for an honest review.
I was supposed to have this book read and reviewed by my
stop on the Songs of Everealm tour but other commitments meant that I wasn’t
quite ready in time, although I had reviewed the first in the series, Song of
Sovereign, by this point.
Plot: Song of Sparrows starts off immediately where Song of Sovereign finished.
After the failure of finding the first stone, Sarita journeys to find the next.
However, Cassidy leaves the group as he gets tired of chasing after Sarita. We
also lose Emery as she decides to stay with the pixies, whom the group return
to their home. We also meet the charismatic wizard Jake, which almost takes
Asher’s place as he returns with Cassidy.
The
quest for the next stone goes more wrong than the first. Although they find it,
Calista is the one left with magic, and to further upset her, she experiences
fusion with Jake, an entire nightmare for the girl.
Song
of Sparrows ends with Sarita returning home, seemingly giving up on her
quest for full magic, and Jake trying to teach Calista how to control her
magic. I can’t wait to see where the next story takes us!
Setting: Romance seems to take more of a
lead in this book compared with the previous, and because of that the setting
seems to suffer. Whilst Wright still crafts a wonderful world, I really believe
it would benefit from a little more description.
Characters: The few characters
introduced at the end of the previous book come into play in Song of Sparrows. Whilst the majority of
characters stayed fairly consistent, the major developments came with Calista
and Jake, who I love! They are both feisty and try to be ignorant of the
fusion, but it’s clear that they are mad for each other.
To read or not to
read: Read. Whilst not quite as
powerful as Song of Sovereign, Song of
Sparrows certainly continues the Songs of Everealm series brilliantly. The
plot was just as good as the previous, and the dynamic between the pairings,
especially Jake and Calista, was amazing, but it just felt like it was lacking
something. Despite that, I definitely recommend the read and can’t wait to read
the third book in the series!
