Book Review: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

City of Bones – Cassandra Clare

*Warning – may contain spoilers*

Publisher: Walker Books Ltd
First published: 2007
Edition: Paperback; advertises release of the movie
Pages: 442

Blurb:    Clary Fray is seeing things: vampires in Brooklyn and werewolves in Manhattan. Irresistibly drawn towards a group of sexy demon hunters, Clary encounters the dark side of New York City – and the dangers of forbidden love.

History of my copy: One of my friends recommended the series to me years ago, probably around 2010-2011. I eventually picked up my copy just before the film was released back in 2013 and immediately became hooked. I am in love with the Shadowhunter world and Clare’s books!

This is actually a review of a re-read... I have no idea how many times I’ve read this book now, and I still love it! Especially when you pick up on links to Clare’s other Shadowhunter novels.

Plot: The first instalment of The Mortal Instruments introduces us to seemingly mundane Clary Fray and her best friend Simon. It turns out though that things aren’t quite as ordinary as it seems when Clary discovers she is actually a Shadowhunter, just like Jace, Alec and Isabelle who she meets. Thrown into a world of demons and Downworlders, Clary must find out who she is and where she belongs, whilst also trying to save her mother.
City of Bones fantastically introduces us to the Shadow world and the key characters, whilst also setting the scene for the next 5 books and the imminent war. Touches of romance and family dilemmas add to the plot, making it fast paced and real page turner. Once you’re hooked on this one, you’ll be hooked on all of Clare’s other books too!

Setting: City of Bones takes place almost entirely in New York, mainly in the New York institute, a building that mundanes see as a ruined church. For the majority of the time, Clare’s setting is gloriously detailed, from the vampire haven of Hotel DuMort to the eerie City of Bones. The one thing I have always had trouble picturing, however, is parts of the institute, especially as the TV show, Shadowhunters, portrayed it so differently to the few bits I had set out.

Characters: It’s really hard on a re-read to judge characters on what you know from that specific book, rather than everything else that you learn later. For example, I remember not being a huge fan of Alec when I started the series, but come the end he is one of my favourites. The same goes for Luke.
               Without a doubt, though, my favourite character is the one and only Magnus Bane. Again, although I didn’t love him in the first book, I never disliked him, but my appreciation for him has just grown continually. He’s such a magnificent character and person and every time he appears in any of Clare’s books, I just get super excited.
               Jace is another character I wasn’t too sure on. Sure, super-hot and cool and a great Shadowhunter, but he always came across as too full of himself and his story seemed a bit too tragic, but again, I learned to adore him.
               Clary is a fantastic lead character, and Clare has her priorities sorted perfectly. I feel like she was perhaps too trusting of the Shadowhunters initially, but I guess they do save her life enough times. And Simon! Even from the first book, I love Simon endlessly. He is witty and brave and sticks out like a sore thumb, but in a way that just makes me love him more.

To read or not to read: Must read. In case you haven’t already figured this out, I would recommend City of Bones and, subsequently, all of Cassandra Clare’s books to absolutely everyone. I adore them. They are brilliantly written and have lots of little links between the books which makes them even more fun to read. Whilst not her strongest book, City of Bones is a phenomenal debut novel and really set the scene for high expectations from Clare.

Book Review: The Bronze Key by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

The Bronze Key – Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

*Warning – may contain spoilers*

Author: Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

Publisher: Scholastic Press
First published: 2016
Edition: Hardback
Pages: 249

Blurb:    Magic can save you.
               Magic can kill you.
Students at the Magisterium are supposed to be safe. Under the watchful eyes of the mages, they are taught to use magic to bring order to a chaotic world.
               But now the chaos is fighting back.
Call, Tamara and Aaron should be worrying about things like pop quizzes and magic contests. Instead, after the shocking death of one of their classmates, they must track down a sinister killer…and risk their own lives in the process.
As Call, Tamara and Aaron discover, magic can only be as good as the person who wields it. In evil hands, it has the capacity to do immeasurable harm – unless it is stopped in time.

History of my copy: I’ve been a fan of the Magisterium series since the very start and so I received The Bronze Key as a Christmas present last year.

As per the previous books in the series, The Bronze Key was quite short and so it only took me 4 days to read. Whilst I feel like the books could be longer, I do find it refreshing to only read a smaller book from time to time. It does, however, make the time between installments seem even longer!

Plot: The third installment in the series definitely picks up the urgency and threatening nature, with someone trying to assassinate Call. Things start to take an even darker turn as the spy, who has the Alkahest, succeeds in killing Aaron, for which Call is blamed. Ending up in the mage prison, we are left with a cliff-hanger as Call’s true mother is revealed…
         The plot was hard hitting and dark, especially for a kids book, as the intensity starts to build up. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Setting: Just like the majority of the rest of the series, this book takes place in the caverns of the magical school, the Magisterium. Even though it’s the third installment now, I still get wowed by some of the gorgeous descriptions of the vast caves and narrow tunnels that Call and his friends both live and study in. When we find ourselves leaving the stone confinements, the descriptions are just as vivid.

Characters: Call is starting to make a really interesting main character, an intriguing mix between Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and his own unique self. I think Black and Clare have done well at capturing Call’s age and the difficulties he is facing, whilst keeping the character likable and humorous. I’m also starting to warm to Tamara.
               Whilst none of the characters still are hugely memorable, I think they are starting to find their niche in the literature world and are becoming a little more iconic.

To read or not to read: Read. This series has a huge amount of potential and whilst it isn’t the best books going, they’re easy to read, funny and have a great plot. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Christmas Book Haul 2

It's that time of year again folks! I hope you have all had an amazing festive period whether you celebrate Christmas, any other holidays, or nothing at all.

As per usual, it isn't really Christmas without family, gifts and, of course, books! I thought for this post I would do a quick update on the state of the books I got last Christmas (blog post can be found here) and then dive into the literary wonders I received this time round.

Last year's books:

Eragon's Guide to Alagaesia by Christopher Paolini

This was the first book I completed in 2016 and I gave it a 4* review.

Illustrated Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling

I'm still yet to finish this one, but the images are just beautiful!

Wars of the Roses: Bloodline by Conn Iggulden

Oops I haven't even started this one yet.

Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

Ahh yes this one was so good! I gave it a 5* review.

The Company of the Dead by David Kowalksi

Don't think I've even started this one either.

The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan

I haven't even touched the first of this trilogy. Maybe this year?

The Copper Gauntlet by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

I loved this one so much I actually finished it back in 2015, just after Christmas! It got a 4* review.

The Enchanted Forest Postcards by Joanna Basford

I've done a few of these now and I'm still super obsessed with how pretty they are. Check out my adult colouring page here.

And now onto this years books!!!

The Bronze Key by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

Already read this one and I am so in love with it! It had a great twist and I'm heartbroken and I just need the next one like right now. Review shall be up soon.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

I read this back when it came out and gave it a glorious 5* review which you can read here. This was the edition I really wanted because it's so beautiful and is stamped by Cassie, but it was sold out when I wanted to get it. You should've seen the look on my face when I found some in my local Waterstones just before Christmas! I practically ran across the store crying! So yes, I am very glad to finally add this to my collection.

Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a pretty big Clare fan. I've wanted to read these short stories about Simon for a while now, but, as I did with The Bane Chronicles, I patiently waited until they were released as a full collection. Can't wait to get stuck in!

Wars of the Roses: Ravenspur by Conn Iggulden

Still haven't read Bloodline, but I needed this beautiful hard back edition to add to my collection.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

I am a h.u.g.e. Meyer fan. The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favourite series ever and I've been dying to get my hands on Heartless since its release. This edition is gorgeous and I can't wait to get started! Find my review for Stars Above here, including links to the 4 main books of The Lunar Chronicles.

Magnus Chase and the Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan

As you can see above, I loved the first book in the Magnus Chase series and can't wait to get stuck into this one.

Illustrated Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Seriously, you can never read Harry Potter enough times. These illustrated editions are just a gorgeous collection to any Potter collection. They're almost too pretty to read!

Taylor Swift - This Is Our Song by Tyler Conroy

I have been a dedicated Swiftie for over a decade now so as soon as I saw this book, I knew I needed it. I'll probably get super jealous of all the fans when I read it (I still haven't seen her live - she always plays too far away for me to affordably go see) but I'll live with it because I just need more Swift in my life.

So there we have it! These are all the books I got for Christmas. Leave a comment with the ones you received!

#SundaySeven (17/04/16)

I know it's very late this week, but better late than never right?
There have been some really amazing photos this week, which is partially why it took me so long to get this post up. I've also been doing a lot more school work, which is also why it took so long.
But before I go and watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I better get this post up!

1.
@mylibrary__

First place this week goes to one of my favourite accounts and someone who tags me in loads of photos, which is brilliant because I love book tags! This photo is quite a simple one, but simple can often mean absolutely stunning. I love the page background, which I'm sure I've mentioned before, but I also love the colour of the photo and that book cover is gorgeous!

2.
@book_lovers_15

This account hasn't been featured since the first week, but has made a comeback with this lovely photo of The One, a review of which can be found on this blog. I love the setting of this one, with the trees reflected beautifully on the lake. Plus the covers of Cass' books are so pretty too!

3.
@ash.reads

Ever since starting #SundaySeven, I have been waiting for Ashley to make the top seven. Not only is her account one of my absolute favourites, she is one of the nicest people I have met since joining bookstagram! A review of Throne of Glass is also up on this blog and, although the book disappointed me, this photo certainly doesn't! I just love the colours and that necklace is so pretty.
4.
@demmi_writist

Unsurprisingly, here we have Demmi's third feature and many of her other photos made it to this week's shortlist too. All of her photos are just so colourful and eye-catching! Two things really made this one for me. One is the bookmark. I love adult colouring, and I love the idea of colouring bookmarks! The colours chosen are so bright and could lighten up even the most fullest of days. The other thing I love are the book covers; I need to buy those books!

5.
@thehufflepuffle

I clearly cannot get enough of Lindsay's account. Third week in a row, and she featured last week twice! Her photos are always so beautifully cluttered and so stylishly done. Zodiac has totally made its way onto my TBR now just because of this photo. I really wish I could take photos as amazing as this!

6.
@sobookinggood

This photo is Tracey's fourth feature, wow! That's more than half the posts! Whenever I even try to go outside, I never get gorgeous photos like this. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but Tracey clearly isn't! I love the way the glare of the sun is in the top of the photo, and I just love the tree that the book is nestled in. It's such a lovely photo; it really makes me want it to be Summer!

7.
@conireads

What's this? A week without Harry Potter? Wow! Instead I have this lovely photo from one of my new found accounts. I'm such a dog person and, although not a really planned out photo like those above, I will stop and always love any photos featuring your reading buddies! Plus the book cover is pretty intriguing too!

Thankyou for reading, and thanks to all the bookstagram accounts (both those featured, and the countless others I poured through in order to decide on my seven).

None of these photos are mine, and I have credited the account and notified them that I am using their image. Occasionally, it is known for accounts to repost photos without crediting the original owner. I do not support this. All photos are, to my knowledge, original to the accounts credited. If not, I will happily amend and assist in reporting accounts that are stealing photos. (To the accounts featured: I am not suggesting this applies to you, I am merely covering myself. This paragraph shall feature on all #SundaySeven posts in the rare and unfortunate case problems may occur.)

#SundaySeven (10/04/16)

I've not been on Instagram much this week as I've been doing a lot of school work. With A-level exams rapidly approaching, and the pressure for me to do well enough to get into med school, I'm realising that I need to work a lot more. However, I shall continue to try and keep doing #SundaySeven and try to stay relatively active.
I am also looking for someone to co-run this blog with me. Of course, things shall change so that it is less personal to me, but I would really love the input of someone else to help keep it active and to add something a little different! If you are interested, contact me by leaving a comment, or by messaging me through any social networking site I have this blog connected to. I think running a book blog with someone else, whilst getting to know them, would make things even more fun!
But enough waffling, now onto this week's top seven photos!

1.
@demmi_writist

I knew from the moment I saw this photo that it would be in my top seven, and very likely the top one. It's such a brilliant idea for a photo! Demmi has, unsurprisingly, featured before (a quick look at her photos will tell you why). But seriously, I love the genius idea behind this - so simple yet so awesome!

2.
@thenerdfiles

Would you look at what's been done here? Let's mix books, my one true love, with another of my favourite things, Once Upon a Time, and my love of Funko's! Unfortunately I'm still on season 2, especially since it's been dropped in England :( However, I am totally in love with the show! (And Colin O'Donaghue is so dreamy!) I just love how cute this photo is!

3.
@amirrorofinkandmadness

Unsurprisingly, I think about 7 photos from this stunning account made it to the shortlist this week! However, competition is tough and this was the one that made it. Anyone who has been following the Sunday Sevens know that I am a huge huge huge fan of the shadow world! The Shadowhunter's Codex is an awesome book, especially with the little notes form Jace, Clary and Simon (although it really reminds me of the Harry, Ron and Hermione notes in Fantastic Beasts). I love Izzy's necklace too!
4.
@booklover14

I cannot get enough of Eleni's account! Not only did she appear twice last week, this is now her fourth appearance in Sunday Seven. Is it any wonder why? I've nearly finished the Lunar Chronicles (I just have Winter left) and I am so hooked! I'm so glad it lived up to the hype bookstagram gave it. I particularly love this photo because of the cute little props that relate to the books. From the spanners for our favourite mechanic through to the glimpse of red fabric for Scarlet's hoody, it is all there! Anyone want to put any bets on Eleni appearing next week? Haha.

5.
@thehufflepuffle

Second week in a row for Lindsay, and this time she is here with a beautiful blue photo. I've never even heard of the book before, but this photo just makes me want to read it right now! I'm a fan of cluttered photos, as long as they match the book cover well, and Lindsay has pulled it off beautifully!

6.
@thehufflepuffle

And I've just realised that number 6 is Lindsay too, you go girl! Again with another book I haven't even heard of, the monochrome with the splashes of red just make this photo so gorgeous. How on earth do you do it? I totally need some tips from you, I love your account!

7.
@mybookbliss

As you probably know by now, a week is rarely ever complete without a dash of Potter. This week we welcome back Morgan to #SundaySeven after her absence from last week's selection. I love the creature theme of this photo, but how it hasn't been overdone. I also love the page background, but I could never pull apart a book to do that!

#SundaySeven (03/04/16)

I've been very busy this week with some family from Cambridge being down and catching up on school work. For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen that I've been to Tintagel (one of my favourite places) and to Geevor. I've also been busy with school work, which is why this post is a lot later than usual.

1.
@book.lover14

Eleni has featured before and, unsurprisingly when you look at her photos, loads of hers made it to my shortlist this week. In fact, I love this photo so much, it actually makes me wish I had enjoyed the book a lot more. I just love the collection of items that match the book's theme and colours and the way it is just so fantastically done.

2.
@thehufflepuffle

April first is, of course, April Fools Day and Lindsay posted this snap of her joke tbr. But look how beautiful that edition is! I totally want! As you may have noticed, I love photos full of little, random objects that compliment it. I just love the cards as well! I wonder if they have a meaning, or if they were just chosen at random. I love her account, and her more recent photo of The Paladin was in my shortlist for this week too!

3.
@jennifermadero

I know, I know, I had a Lady Midnight spam a few weeks ago, but I couldn't resist choosing this beautiful photo of Jennifer's! For someone who hasn't read the book, the accessories are spot on! The jewellery makes me think of the Fair Folk and Mark and Kieran, and the sea shells tie in with the LA beach that the institute is near (and let's not forget that scene that occurred on the beach). Also, I do love the idea of using book pages as a background!

4.
@lechoixdesofie

Similar to my second choice last week, I still clearly have a thing for rainbow books and doodles. My rainbow book tags always look awful, but ones like Sofie's are stunning! I may have to take some inspiration from this next time. Rainbow book photos always just make me 'aw'.

5.
@book.lover14

Twice in one week! Wow Eleni, your photos really are stunning this week! But how could I ignore this photo? (And those black page edges!) The only thing I love more than rainbows or accessories in a photo is more books! I also love the plant that's currently featuring in most of her photos. And, well, I can't help but notice Lady Midnight in the corner!

6.
@jmstorinbooks

Of course, it's not a #KatticusSundaySeven without a little of my Harry Potter love. Or, in this case, a lot as the next photo is also Potter themed. I love the pop, I love the socks, I love the notebook, I love the photo! Even though I'm a Hufflepuff, I love all the red and am totally in love with this cute little photo. Also, Jessica is releasing her book The Paladin this week!! Totally going to get my hands on it when I have a little more money.

7.
@book.belle

And, of course, some Potter love to wrap up this post. I love how this photo is almost symmetrical, but not quite. I also love the little Potter items and the way they are arranged around the books. It's so organised yet so cute! (And I'm a huge funko fan, so bonus points there!)

Book Review: Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight – Cassandra Clare

*Warning – may contain spoilers* (I have tried my hardest not to)

Author: Cassandra Clare
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
First published: 2016
Cover: Paperback with blue page edges

Pages: 669 + 22-page short story

Blurb:    In a kingdom by the sea…
 In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word. A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other – but they can never fall in love.
Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter. She lives for battle. Alongside her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries – the most powerful of supernatural creatures – teeter on the edge of war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries are found murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held by the faerie Courts. All they have to do is solve the murders within two weeks… and before the murderer targets them.
Their search takes Emma from the sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. And each clue she unravels uncovers more secrets. What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter Law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents – and can she bear to know the truth?

History of my copy: I got this copy delivered to me on release day and I have been reading it since then. I hate how long it has taken me to read it! If I had it my way, I would’ve stayed up all night to finish it. However, amongst school, being ill, and having to catch up on work, it took me so long to read.

Plot: Lady Midnight follows the Los Angeles Institute five years (I think) after the events of City of Heavenly Fire. It’s a world where Julian Blackthorn is the father figure to all his siblings, and practically runs the Institute himself. The plot follows the Blackthorn’s, along with Emma Carstairs and Christina as they secretly investigate some murders that are awfully similar to Emma’s parent’s death.
         Without spoiling the plot for anyone, I’m just going to say this: The Guardian was totally not who I expected it to be!!! Plot twist!
         My only major problem with the plot was Julian and Emma’s relationship. I just feel like the romantic side was so forced. To be honest, I loved the brief bit of Mark and Emma that happened just at the end!
         Also, the short story at the end – Sizzy and Clace!!!!!!
         Another great thing about the plot was that it was kept separate from The Mortal Instruments. Sure, it would help to read them to get the background story, to know who Jace and Clary are, etc. but there is nothing preventing you from reading The Dark Artifices as a stand-alone series.

Setting: I do feel as if the setting could have been described a little more, as a few times I wasn’t really sure what the landscape was like. As I’ve never been to L.A., I couldn’t really picture it too well.

Characters: As always, Clare has brilliantly crafted her characters so that you fall in love with them, whilst noticing their flaws, and preparing to have your heart ripped out.
                I do feel as if the Blackthorn family is a little too large – a few times I had to pause to try and remember which child it was, how old they were, what they’re like, etc. Maybe in future books they will all begin to play a major part, which would explain why there are so many of them.
                I would also like a lot more background on Christina and Diego, and what happened in Mexico, but I imagine that shall be explored in future books. I also would’ve liked a little more back story to Malcolm Fade, the warlock.
                Furthermore, I totally cannot wait to see Kit’s character to develop as he accepts his new identity.
                One of my favourite things about the characters though was the occasional sprinkling of all those old characters we love! From Jem and Tessa through to Jace and Clary, then there is Simon and Isabelle’s engagement and Alec and Magnus and their adopted kids!! This book contains a good mix of old and new that both die-hard fans and new readers will struggle to resist.

To read or not to read: Read. Overall, this is another fantastic Shadowhunter novel by Cassandra Clare. When first announced, there was a bit of an outcry that she was over-using the Shadow World. However, with an idea so brilliantly unique and well-crafted, as long as the stories remain unique and interesting, she can write as many as she wants in my opinion! Definitely go and read, regardless of whether you have read The Infernal Devices and/or The Mortal Instruments or not. I assure you, you won’t be disappointed. (And you will probably fall in love with Mark Blackthorn too).

#SundaySeven (13/03/16)

Here we are at the second Sunday of March, this month really is flying by! There was a point last night where I thought I wouldn't be able to do #SundaySeven this week, as I had a horrific headache. This morning though, I'm just left with a lovely sore throat, but with the help of numerous throat sweets, I have powered on to deliver as promised.
This week featured my most anticipated release of the year, Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare! I've been pretty ill, so I haven't yet finished reading it, but I love it so much! I think I could read shadowhunter books forever.
This week has also been a rather Potter week, and quite a few Harry Potter themed photos have made it into the top 7.
But now you can see for yourself, here are my #SundaySeven:

1.
@geekgirlbookworm

It seemed wrong to not have a Lady Midnight photo feature in this week's bunch, so here is my absolute favourite! I desperately wanted a copy like this, but by the time I had the money, they had all sold out! Ah well, better luck next time. But this cover is absolutely stunning (and I think it's signed too). Cassandra Clare and coffee, two of my favourite things. I hope you're loving the book!

2.
@demmi_writist

I love Demmi's account! She is always tagging in for book tags, which I love doing (despite the fact I do let them build up, oops..). In fact, I'm even tagged in this wonderful photo. I love how simplistic yet eye-catching the white and black books are, and the hints of red just add a bit of brightness to the photo. And there's more coffee!

3.
@emzbooksandco

A recent discovery for me, Em has some really lovely photos! As a huge Potterhead, as I've mentioned numerous times, I love seeing photos of everyone else's Potter collections. (I have so much, I can't even display it all). However, this collection is neat and tidy, and I am so in love with those covers!

4.
@sobookinggood

Another point to Harry Potter, and another feature for Tracey, who was in last week's #SundaySeven too! In fact, having a quick scroll through her account just now, so many of her other photos were in my shortlist for this week too. This photo was a really interesting take on the bookish triangle tag. I love candles, I love Harry Potter, I love Tracey's account. Any surprises there?

5.
@bookybooklove

I discovered this photo this morning, and had to just sit back for a moment. How come everyone else can get these really awesome sunlight photos and mine always suck?? This photo quite literally took my breath away. The ray of sun, to me, looks like a glass sword, which obviously suits the book perfectly! I'm not sure if the muddy background adds to the photo or not though.

(My headache is starting to return, let's hope I can make it through.)

6.
@books_and_bobs

Last Potter photo of the week, I promise! This photo is so simple, probably didn't take much thought, but was pulled off so well! I'm a sucker for little crafty things so those stars really make it for me.

7.
@inspiredbythepages

Amongst all the lovely bookish photos on bookstagram, sometimes it is really nice to see some work books. Just because you may be studying, and the work may be a little dull, it doesn't mean you can't take some awesome photos with it! I can relate to this photo too, with a work space that is organised, but a little confusing to anyone that isn't you.

#SundaySeven (06/03/16)

It's that time of the week again! Just like last week, I really struggled to narrow it down to just seven photos, but I think I've found a good way of doing it now. I think I have even chosen a completely different group of accounts this week, which makes things even more fun! And I promise, there's a lot less Harry Potter in this weeks bunch.

So, now for less waffling and more photos!

1.

So, here is my favourite photo of the week! As you can see, it's very different from the top photo last week. I stumbled across this one when searching through the #conniggulden tag. I'm a huge fan of this series! I love the background to the photo, and the red rose just really finishes off this photo.

2.

Funnily enough, second place is taken by the same book! It goes to show that sometimes it's not just what you do to the book, but what book you use. As mentioned last week, I desperately want to read this book, and I fall in love with the cover a little more each time. I'm not sure what it is that makes me love this photo, but I really enjoy the contrast between the city on the cover and the natural wood background.

3.

I'm not a huge fan of snow, and I totally agree with Tracey that March shouldn't have snow, but I have to admit it allows for some stunning photos! I have seen a few snow photos this week, but this one really takes my breath away. It really feels like an isolated winter wonderland, and it just looks so beautiful!

4.

England celebrated World Book Day this week, and so bookstagram was full of hundreds of photos of us celebrating our favourite day. This was made for a shop display and, whilst not the usual bookstagram post, it is absolutely stunning! A cute little dress made out of books? Yes please! Where can I buy one?

5.

Fifth spot this week is also taken by a book with some petals! Shadow and Bone is another book that has been on my tbr for a while now. I've heard that the book is a mixture of horror and fantasy, and I think the roses and petals really show that. Some still look full of life, representing the fantasy, whilst others are withered and decaying, showing that a horror lies underneath. Great photo!

6.

This weeks #SundaySeven wouldn't be complete without a Cassandra Clare book because Lady Midnight comes out in two days!!!! I cannot contain my excitement!! I love photos where a book is featured on top of a sea of open books, and this one really caught my eye because I am a huge fan of anything and everything Shadowhunters!

7.

Quite a few of Eleni's photos actually ended up in my shortlist for this weeks post, but this one was the only one to make it to the top 7. Look at those shoes! I'm really not a heel girl and I don't think I could make it 3 steps in them! But the colour of the shoe matches the books perfectly, and it's such a lovely colour.
